Stormy weekend possible for Alabama

Stormy weekend possible for Alabama

Isolated to scattered severe storms will be in the forecast for Alabama this weekend.

There will be a Level 1 out of 5 risk for the northern part of the state on Saturday, according to forecasts from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center. On Sunday a larger part of the state will have a Level 2 risk.

Saturday’s forecast is at the top of this post. Below is the forecast for Sunday:

Much of Alabama will have a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather on Sunday.

A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible. A Level 2 risk means the severe storms could be a bit more numerous.

The strongest storms could have wind gusts as high as 60 mph, hail and heavy rain. The tornado threat is low.

The National Weather Service thinks that the best chance for severe storms will be during the afternoon and evening hours both Saturday and Sunday.

Rain and storms will also be possible across all of Alabama today, but no organized severe weather is expected.

A weather disturbance is expected to bring the potential for storms to areas mainly along and north of the Interstate 59 corridor on Saturday. The strongest of those could have damaging winds, hail and heavy rain.

Storms are expected to be a bit more numerous on Sunday as a cold front approaches Alabama.

The weather service said a very moist airmass will continue to blanket the state over the weekend, and storms could drop a lot of rain in a short amount of time. There will be a low-end risk for flash flooding in some areas.
