Storm postpones country music star’s Birmingham amphitheater concert for months

A country music star’s concert was postponed Friday night in Birmingham due to severe weather.

According to a Facebook post by the Coca-Cola Amphitheater, the Thomas Rhett concert was postponed until October 9.

The post stated that all tickets for the show will be honored for the new concert date.

Prior to the postponement the amphitheater notified concertgoers that severe storms containing lightning moved into the area around 7 p.m. and advised people to shelter in their vehicles or the venue.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham forecast that a few isolated severe storms would develop throughout central Alabama along with damaging wind gusts of 60 miles per hour.

This weather threat is anticipated to continue through 10 p.m.

The Magic City’s new concert venue opened last weekend with Matt Rife as the headliner at the 9,300-capacity amphitheater. Def Leppard performed with Bret Michaels on Wednesday and the Dave Matthews Band was there on Tuesday.

Jason Isbell is set to perform there Saturday night.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast for Saturday, according to the weather service, mainly during the afternoon.
