Storm damage survey planned for two Alabama counties

Storm damage survey planned for two Alabama counties

The National Weather Service plans to take a look at storm damage in south-central Alabama today (Monday).

The weather service said it was sending a storm survey team to look at areas in Tallapoosa and Chambers counties after severe storms moved through those areas on Sunday.

Both of those areas were under severe thunderstorm warnings as storms moved through the area on Sunday morning.

The weather service was watching the storms closely at the time and noted broad rotation with them but had no indication of a tornado touchdown.

However, some damage was later reported in both counties, mostly fallen trees. The weather service later on Sunday got a report of multiple downed trees in the Lanett area in Chambers County, including some that fell onto homes.

The weather service will look at the damage to see if it was caused by tornadoes or straight-line winds.

If a tornado is confirmed then the weather service will give it an EF rating using the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

The weather service said results from the storm surveys will be released later today.
