Stocks of interest in Birmingham cool as Wall Street slides to loss

As the markets cooled on Friday, so too did the stocks of local interest.

Still, Community Health Systems, which is based in Franklin, Tennessee and has six Alabama locations (Birmingham, Dothan, Enterprise, Foley, Gadsden and Huntsville) closed at $4.22, a gain of 14 cents, continuing its rebound.

Last month the stock had nearly slipped below $3.

Only four stocks saw gains of more than 1 percentage point: Community Health Systems (3.4), ProAssurance (2.1), Southern Company (1.4) and Westrock Co. (1.1).

Automakers Honda and Toyota took the biggest tumbles of the day. Honda fell 2.1% to $31.23 while Toyota fell 2.3% to close at $164.35.

The biggest loss of the day, both in percentages and dollars, was Target, which fell 2.9% losing $4.03 per share to $133.81. The retail giant was at more than $160 30 days ago.
