After months of issues with its garbage hauling contractor, Hoover has decided to step in and handle some pickups itself.

This week the city agreed to purchase a $70,000 used garbage truck from Alabaster, giving it the ability to cover missed pickups by AmWaste, its contractor. According to city spokesperson Melanie Posey, the money will come from city clerk’s office surplus.
