Stevie Nicks cancels Birmingham concert due to illness in band

Stevie Nicks has canceled three of her solo tour dates, including a Wednesday show in Birmingham at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC. “Ongoing illnesses within the band” is to blame, the BJCC said Tuesday in an announcement on social media.

Nicks also canceled concerts on April 11 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and on April 15 at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. A show with Billy Joel, set for April 8 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has been rescheduled for March 9, 2024, according to a tweet from the stadium.

Refunds for the Birmingham show are automatic for those who bought tickets directly from Ticketmaster online or by phone using credit cards, per Ticketmaster policy. Others may return tickets to the point of purchase for refunds, the BJCC statement said.

Nicks, the dusky-voiced rocker who made her fame as a standout member of Fleetwood Mac, in January announced 14 solo concert dates for this year, including the Birmingham show on April 5. The charismatic singer-songwriter was set to return to Alabama after a sold-out show on Halloween 2022 at the Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville. More than 8,000 people were “mesmerized by Nicks, rock & roll’s ultimate witch,” Matt Wake said in his review for AL.com.

Nicks, 74, is a longtime favorite in Alabama, especially in the Birmingham area, where she has performed with Fleetwood Mac, as a solo artist and during her early career with the duo Buckingham Nicks.

Nicks made her last appearance in Birmingham in 2019 with Fleetwood Mac, minus Buckingham but joined by four members of the band’s best-known lineup: bassist John McVie, drummer Mick Fleetwood and singer-keyboard player Christine McVie.
