State offices closed today for Confederate holiday
People wanting to do business with state offices in Alabama today will have to wait until tomorrow.
April 24 is Confederate Memorial Day in Alabama and state offices, including state courts, are closed. Federal offices and most municipal ones will remain open. The holiday is observed annually on the fourth Monday in April.

Alabama is one of the few remaining states to mark the day as an official state holiday. Mississippi marks Confederate Memorial Day on the last Monday in April and South Carolina has its state holiday in May.
Confederate Memorial Day is one of three Confederate-related state holidays in Alabama. The state combined the day for Confederate General Robert E. Lee with that honoring civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. in January. Alabama has another state holiday in June to recognize Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
