Starbucks offers free refills, issues code of conduct; What you need to know

Starbucks is making some changes in 2025, including free refills and a code of conduct.

The coffee giant is trying to win your business back after there was a reported decline in foot traffic.

Starting Monday, Starbucks is offering free refills at all U.S. and Canada stores on hot or iced coffee or tea for customers who order “for here,” per a press release.

The free refills will be served in coffee mugs, glasses, or a clean personal cup brought from home and are only available on the same visit at one store. The refills excludes Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew, Iced Tea Lemonade, flavored Iced Tea and Starbucks Refreshers® base. Initial purchase must be made in a reusable cup or “for-here” serveware.

Also in the release, Starbucks announced a code of conduct.

Per the code:

“Our goal is to create a welcoming environment. We expect everyone to treat one another with respect and follow our code of conduct:

  • No misuse or disruption of our spaces
  • No discrimination or harassment
  • No violence or abusive/threatening language
  • No consuming outside alcohol
  • No smoking/vaping or drug use
  • No panhandling

“We will ask anyone not following this code of conduct to leave the store and may ask for help from law enforcement.”

Finally, Starbucks is brining back the condiment bar. You will now be able to add the finishing touches to your beverage with the return of creamer and milk, along with a variety of sweeteners to the condiment bar. If you don’t see the milk or sweetener you prefer, a barista will get what you need.
