Starbucks now gives free refills: Here’s how to get them
In case you missed the news, Starbucks now offers free refills.
Is the coffee giant refilling every drink for free? Not exactly. If you order a specialty beverage such as a latte or frappuccino, you won’t get another one on the house.
But, no matter what drink you order first, Starbucks will follow that initial purchase with free refills of hot brewed or iced coffee or tea, as long as customers order the beverages to be consumed in-store. Starbucks will serve the refills in a coffee mug, glass, or in a clean, personal cup patrons can bring from home, according to a press release.
The free refills are part of Starbucks’ initiative to return to its roots as a “community coffeehouse” according to multiple reports.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol, who joined the company in September, is focused on implementing a wave of changes to reposition the coffee chain after a turbulent year, reports the Wall Street Journal.
“We will be the community coffeehouse known for great coffee,” Niccol told employees at a September internal meeting.
While Starbucks will give out more free coffee and tea, the Seattle-based coffee chain is also planning cutbacks. Over the course of the year, Starbucks will downsize its menu and remove a number of food and drink options in the next few months in an effort to cut costs and improve the customer experience.
