The U.S. Postal Service filed notice yesterday with the Postal Regulatory Commission seeking to raise the cost of a Forever Stamp effective July 13. The new rate includes a 5-cent increase from 73 cents to 78 cents.

“As changes in the mailing and shipping marketplace continue, these price adjustments are needed to achieve the financial stability sought by the organization’s Delivering for America 10-year plan. USPS prices remain among the most affordable in the world,” USPS said in a statement.

The price of a Forever Stamp, which can be used in perpetuity no matter any future increases, last rose in July 2024 from 68 cents to 73 cents. That marked the second price hike in a year and came after a 2-cent increase from 66 cents to 68 cents in January 2024. In 2023, the price of a Forever Stamp rose from 63 cents to 66 cents.

The latest USPS request includes several other mail products as well:

  • Letters (metered 1 ounce) – From 69 cents to 74 cents
  • Domestic postcards – 56 cents to 62 cents
  • International postcards- $1.65 to $1.70
  • International letter (1 ounce) – $1.65 to $1.70
  • Additional ounce price for letters will increase from 28 cents to 29 cents.

Prices for select services will go down, USPS said, including a 12% reduction in the cost of postal insurance.

The request must still be approved by the regulatory commission.
