The U.S. Postal Service said its new prices will take effect Jan. 21, 2024. The most notable change will be in the cost of Forever Stamps, which will increase 2 cents from 66 cents to 68 cents. Forever Stamps – which can be used in perpetuity no matter future price changes- last increased on July 9 when prices rose from 63 to 66 cents.

The prices, which represent an increase of about 2 percent, must be approved by the governors of the USPS. USPS blamed the planned increase on inflation.

“As inflationary pressures on operating expenses continue and the effects of a previously defective pricing model are still being felt, these price adjustments are needed to provide the Postal Service with much-needed revenue to achieve the financial stability sought by its Delivering for America 10-year plan. The prices of the Postal Service remain among the most affordable in the world,” USPS said in a statement.

There will be no change to the price for an additional ounce per letter, which remains at 24 cents.
