Stallions put former Alabama lineman on injured reserve

The Birmingham Stallions placed Deonte Brown on injured reserve on Tuesday night after the former Alabama offensive lineman got hurt in the first quarter of Saturday’s 27-14 victory over the Arlington Renegades.

Brown started at left guard in the Stallions’ season-opening game, but he will have to miss at least six weeks after going on injured reserve.

To take Brown’s place on the roster, Birmingham signed O’Shea Dugas, who was the Stallions’ starting left guard when they defeated the Pittsburgh Maulers 28-12 in last season’s USFL Championship Game.

The Stallions had waived Dugas on March 22. Birmingham went to training camp with the offensive line that started its final game of 2023, but the Stallions started five different offensive linemen against the Renegades.

A prep standout at Austin High School in Decatur, Brown was a sixth-round selection from Alabama in the 2021 NFL Draft. He had spent most of the past three seasons on the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad. Brown played in three NFL regular-season games in 2021.

Birmingham continues its United Football League season against the Michigan Panthers at 11 a.m. CDT Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit. ESPN will televise the game.

The Panthers kicked off their UFL slate with a 18-16 victory over the St. Louis Battlehawks on Saturday.
