Springville 16-year-old who drowned at Georgia state park ‘lived his life to the fullest’

A 16-year-old from Springville drowned Saturday at James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park in Georgia, according to the Chattooga County Sheriff.

The sheriff identified the teen as Corbin Thornton.

Corbin was a freshman at St. Clair County High School and a member of JROTC color guard, according to his obituary.

“With a grin of mischief, Corbin lived his life to the fullest,” the obituary read. “He was a handsome charmer, always acting goofy and making people laugh. His bright smile and beautiful blue eyes lit up any room that he stepped into.”

The high school is making support services available to students in the wake of Corbin’s death, the school announced on Facebook.

Corbin appeared to have possibly had a medical episode when he fell into the water, the sheriff’s office said.
