Spring sports roundup: Hoover baseball wins a pair of games in Buccaneer Classic

Homestanding seventh-ranked Class 7A Hoover pushed across 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Auburn 11-5 in the Buccaneer Classic on Thursday. Hoover also whipped St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City, N.J., 11-1 earlier in the day.

Auburn had scored 3 runs in the top of the fourth to break a scoreless tie before the Bucs tied the game with a run in the fourth and a pair in the fifth. The Tigers scored a run in the top of the seventh on a homer by Antwane Daniels for the final margin.

Hoover got a pair of home runs, one from Parker Johnson and another from Will Adams to go with doubles by Atticus Barton, James Au, Jaxson Wood and Tanner Hall. Auburn also got triples from Wilson Foster and Will Whatley.

Grayson Payne was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs for Hoover while Barton went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Johnson was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Wood and Au also had 2 hits on the day in the win.

Emerson Milligan earned the win in relief of Brady Sheppard. Milligan gave up an earned run on 2 hits with a strikeout in 1.2 innings. Sheppard allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks in 5.1 innings.

Whatley and Ryan Farr had 2 hits apiece for Auburn. Reliever Hank Brantley took the loss, allowing 6 earned runs on 2 hits with 4 walks in the sixth inning. Whatley, the starter, allowed 3 earned runs on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings.

In the win over St. Peter’s Prep, Adams went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and 4 RBIs. Jake Fridley and Wood also doubled in the 5-inning win. Wood scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Ian Campbell struck out 6, walked 1 and allowed an unearned run on 5 hits in the complete game win.

BUCCANEER CLASSIC

Houston (Tenn.) 3, Mountain Brook 1

The Mustangs from Germantown, Tenn., edged Mountain Brook on Thursday as Chandler Day struck out 14 and allowed 2 hits in a complete-game performance. The win was No. 701 for Houston coach Lane McCarter.

Houston scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings while holding the Spartans to a run in the top of the second.

Mountain Brook’s Samuel Estes singled, stole second, went to third on a single by William Weaver and scored on an error.

Starter Caleb Barnett took the loss for the Spartans, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 innings. Brooks Allen allowed an earned run on 2 hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2 innings.

Briarwood Christian 9, Tuscaloosa County 7

The Class 5A Lions gave up a big inning by Class 7A No. 9 Tuscaloosa County late, but held on to top the Wildcats on Wednesday. Briarwood Christian led 3-0 after three innings, 6-2 after four and 9-2 headed into the bottom of the fifth when Tuscaloosa County pushed across 5 runs for what proved to be the final.

Leadoff hitter Seth Staggs went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and 3 runs scored for the winners. Designated hitter Parker Daniels was 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs with James Clark driving in 4 runs with his 1-for-4 day with a walk.

John Parker Splawn got the win, despite allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits with a strikeout and a walk with one-third of an inning in relief of starter Ivan Hand. Hand worked 4.1 innings, giving up 5 runs – 3 earned – on 6 hits with a strikeout and 3 walks. Staggs worked one-third of an inning and Robbie Pauling closed it out with 2 scoreless innings with a hit and a strikeout.

Camden Barnett, Drew Keller, Ford Traweek and Kole Nicholson had doubles for Tuscaloosa County, which out-hit Briarwood 10-8. Nicholson was the only Wildcat with multiple hits, going 3-for-4 on the day.

Starter Brooks Mellown took the loss, allowing 6 runs – 1 earned – on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks in 4 innings. Drew Jackson worked the final 3 innings, allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk.

Vestavia Hills 12, Prattville 3

The fifth-ranked Class 7A Rebels pounded out 14 hits – with a triple and five doubles – in the win over Prattville on Wednesday.

Carson Mann was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Vestavia Hills. Charlie Taaffe went 2-for-5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored from his leadoff spot. Cross Tonsmeire and Gavin Smith had a pair of doubles apiece as Tonsmeire was 3-for-4 with 3 runs and Smith went 3-for-4 with a run. William Tonsmeire also had a double and Will Langston went 2-for-3 in the win.

Starter Chase Rafferty pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Cooper Anderson worked 2 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Wilson Szymela closed out the game with 2 innings’ work, allowing a hit with 2 strikeouts and a walk.

Prattville’s William Piper went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Christian Alexander and Aiden Urnis had 2 hits each.

Starter Paxton Genola took the loss, allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks over 2.1 innings. Will Burdett struck out 2 in 1.2 innings and Gavin Rigdon allowed 7 earned runs on 8 hits with a strikeout and a walk over 3 innings.

Cullman 6, Spain Park 3

Cullman knocked off third-ranked Class 6A Spain Park on Wednesday after carrying a 6-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning. The Bearcats pounded out 10 hits against three Spain Park pitchers and had four doubles on the day.

Tyler Brock went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles with 3 RBIs, Andrew Au had a double in 2 at-bats and Carson Stancil had a double and an RBI in the win. Bennett Johnson went 2-for-4 and Cooper Loftin was 2-for-3 for Cullman.

Fysher Dahlke worked 6.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits with 8 strikeouts and 7 walks. Jalyn McClintock got the final 2 outs with a strikeout while allowing a hit.

Patrick McQueeney took the loss for Spain Park, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks in 4 innings. Caden Smith gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits with a strikeout in 1 inning and Lucas McEwen gave up an earned run on 1 hit with a strikeout and a walk in an inning.

Joseph Cross had a hit with 2 RBIs. Evan Taylor, Jack Sellers and Brodie Bragg also had hits in the loss.

Hartselle 5, Prattville 0

Jace Meadows threw a complete-game 3-hitter as the top-ranked Class 6A Tigers shut out Prattville on Wednesday. Meadows struck out 4 and walked 2 in Hartselle’s win.

Cruise Baker tripled and drove in a pair of runs for the winners while Asher Doepel had a double and an RBI. Ty Marsh went 2-for-3 and Carter Lee and Samuel Gillette also had RBIs.

Christian Alexander had 2 of the Lions’ 3 hits with Christopher Hardaway adding the other. Mason Piper took the loss on the mound for Prattville, giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk in 5 innings.

Hewitt-Trussville 3, West Broward (Fla.) 2

The Class 7A No. 1 Huskies went 2-1 in the IMG Academy National Classic in Bradenton, Fla., falling to the host team 5-2 on Tuesday before whipping St. Laurence of Burbank, Ill., 11-1 on Wednesday and West Broward of Pembroke Pines, Fla., on Thursday.

On Thursday, Cooper Huffman singled in a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to lift Hewitt-Trussville to the win. Cale McIntosh went 2-for-3 and Koal Duckett was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs for the Huskies.

Rylan Clark got the win, throwing a complete game with 2 earned runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts.

In Wednesday’s rout, Colby Durden smacked a home run and the Huskies got five doubles – from Blake Bales, Christian Helmers, Cameron Simpson, Drew Ollis and Steele Hall.

Hall was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Helmers was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Hudson Mitchell gave up an unearned run on 3 hits with a pair of strikeouts in a 5-inning complete game win.

Against IMG, Hewitt-Trussville scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead, but the Ascenders rallied in the bottom of the inning for 4 runs and the win. IMG scored on a wild pitch, an RBI triple and a sacrifice bunt.

Duckett was 2-for-3 for the Huskies and Simpson had Hewitt’s other hit.

Jacob Francis took the loss, allowing 5 earned runs on 5 hits with a strikeout and 6 walks over 5.1 innings.

Homewood 8, Hatton 3

The fifth-ranked Class 6A Patriots went 2-1 in the Gulf Shores Classic Tournament, beating Hatton on Thursday and Paragould, Ark., 16-3 on Wednesday after falling 5-4 to Har-Ber of Springdale, Ark., on Tuesday. Homewood is 18-4 on the season.

Sophomore Collin Crump earned the win in his first varsity start against Hatton, allowing no earned runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks in 4.1 innings. Will Dobbins went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBIs for Homewood. Cooper Sain was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 3 stolen bases while Levi Nickoli was 1-for-2 with 2 steals and 2 runs scored.

James Heaps went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Hatton. Bryson Jeffreys was 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored with Wesley Steadman and Owen Brackin both finishing 1-for-3.

Jack Ross slapped a pair of home runs in the rout of Paragould. The senior was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs for Homewood. Dobbins and Sain were both 2-for-3 with an RBI apiece. Jack Bland tripled and had 2 RBIs, Connor Brunner singled with 2 RBIs and Drew Susce had a double and an RBI. Bland was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks over 4 innings.

In the loss to Har-Ber, the two-time defending Arkansas state champions, the Patriots battled back from a 3-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning on a Bland single and a wild pitch. The Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Thomas Davis drove in a run with a squeeze bunt in the top of the sixth to trim the lead to 4-3 and Homewood tied it with a 2-out single by Bland. He drove in junior shortstop Nickoli, who had walked and stole second.

Har-Ber won in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded error.

Nickoli took the loss, throwing an inning of relief, allowing an unearned run on a hit with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Hartselle 4, Clarksville (Tenn.) 2

The top-ranked Class 6A Tigers rallied from a second-inning deficit with a 3-run home run from Cruise Baker in the fourth and added another run when Asher Doepel doubled and scored on an error in the sixth to get the win over visiting Clarksville, Tenn., on Thursday.

Hartselle got 6 hits – from Easton Nelms, Christopher Miles, Ty Marsh, Baker, Doepel and Carter Lee – in the win. Starter Connor Stiles got the win on the mound, allowing 2 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in 6.1 innings. Nelms gave up a hit and struck out a batter in two-thirds of an inning to close out the game.

Earlier in the day, Hartselle pounded out 10 hits as Lee pitched a 1-hitter on the way to a 6-0 win over Smiths Station. The junior right-hander struck out 2 and walked 2 in the 7-inning win.

Marsh went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, Baker and Witt Crisler both had doubles with Crisler going 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs. Braden Weathers was 2-for-3 in the win.

Tristan Ward’s double was the lone hit for the Panthers. Canaan McDonald took the loss, allowing 5 earned runs on 8hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Bob Jones 9, Sparkman 3

The second-ranked Class 7A Patriots pounded out 11 hits in the home win over Sparkman on Tuesday with four doubles on the day. Dillon Adkins had a pair of doubles with Vincent Howald and Camden Martin adding one apiece.

Bob Jones pushed across 5 runs in the first inning, added another in the second and after Sparkman scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, the Patriots scored 2 in the fifth. Both teams scored a run in the sixth. Sparkman had 2 errors on the day while the home team had 1.

Martin was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored for Bob Jones. Adkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs and Howald was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Landon Pierce went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Drake Barbee, Tiger Flanigan and Robert Chatmon also had an RBI each.

Martin, the first of five pitchers on the day, earned the win for the Patriots. He gave up a hit with 2 strikeouts and a walk in an inning’s work. Jackson Shaw struck out 2 in the second inning. Ryan Leahy struck out 1 and walked 4, allowing an earned run on 3 hits in 2 innings. Jack Revera allowed 2 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits with a walk in 2 innings.

Starter Brenner VanDeWynckel took the loss for Sparkman, allowing 6 runs – 5 earned – on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks over 1.2 innings. Jeffrey Morris, the fourth pitcher for the Senators, had 4 strikeouts and Jack Wells struck out 3.

William Peccia and Richard Freiholtz were both 2-for-3 at the plate and Byron Hammons was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Wells and Dawson Betts also had an RBI apiece.

The Patriots beat the Senators again on Thursday, this time by a 9-3 score.

Bob Jones scored a single run in the first, five in the second and four in the fourth. Sparkman countered with two in the third and four in the seventh.

Adkins had two hits and 3 RBIs for the Patriots. Cole Spanier drove in two runs. Tanner Hermesch picked up the win, pitching 6 innings and striking out 11. He allowed five hits and two runs — both unearned.

Westminster Christian 7, St. John Paul II 6

The Wildcats opened Class 4A, Area 15 play with the narrow win over St. John Paul II at home on Wednesday.

Trey Perkins gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Samuel Novak sealed the win with a final-out strikeout for Westminster Christian.

Amos Baldwin led the winners at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Hayden Burns was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

SJP2 capitalized on a throwing error to lead 2-0 in the second inning before the home team took a 3-2 edge in the third on RBIs by Baldwin and Burns. The Falcons tied the score at 3 in the fourth, but Westminster answered in the bottom of the inning to pull ahead 6-3.

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Spanish Fort 9, McGill-Toolen 1

Spanish Fort scored 3 runs in the second inning and broke the game open with 4 more in the sixth in the opener of a key Class 6A, Area 2 series at No. 6-ranked McGill-Toolen on Thursday.

Mytch Deacy went 2-for-3 with a run scored and 3 RBIs for the Toros. Newton Gardner and Nemo Hixon also had 2 hits. Lakelon Ray stole a pair of bases.

The Toros (12-10) got on the board in the third on Austin Arthur’s RBI triple, Deacy’s 2-run double and Hixon’s RBI single. Deacy’s 2-run single was the key blow in the sixth.

Colin Murphy went the distance on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 5. Jake Quina took the loss for McGill (15-4). He allowed 7 runs on 8 hits in 5.1 innings.

Barrett Porter, Joseph Huff and Colten Manley had the Yellow Jackets’ 3 hits. Huff drove in the only run.

The series resumes Friday at Spanish Fort.

Satsuma 4, Millry 3

Jake May’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Satsuma over visiting Millry on Tuesday, snapping the Wildcats’ 14-game winning streak. It was Class 1A, No. 6 Millry’s first loss of the month.

May – who also was the winning pitcher in relief – slapped the first pitch of the at-bat from Millry reliever Shooter Holyfield just over shortstop Lawson Whigham’s head to score Cooper Crenshaw, who had reached on single.

May pitched 2 scoreless innings. He gave up a leadoff double to Jaquan Stewart in the seventh, the Wildcats’ only extra base hit of the game.

Satsuma opened the scoring with a two-out bases-loaded single by Crenshaw, scoring Braxton Byrd and Darius Kapua. Gators’ cleanup hitter Crenshaw had 2 hits and reached a third time on walk. Isaac Kapua had a pair of doubles for Satsuma.

Millry (18-4) tied the game at 3 when Caden Welford drove in Phoenix Holyfield. Hisun Marlowe and Holyfield each had a pair of hits for the Wildcats.

On Friday, Satsuma (11-6) plays a double-header at Orange Beach and Millry will play a double-header at Leroy.

Saraland 9, Florence 3

Florence scored all of its runs in the top of the first at Saraland, but the Spartans responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, 2 more in the second and 4 in the third to pull away. Saraland added another run in the sixth to earn the home win on Tuesday.

Henry Blanke led off the first for the Falcons, stole second, took third on a single by Noah Yeager and stole home. Cooper Thomaston tripled in Eli Martin, who had singled, and Kirkland Blanke drove in Thomaston with another single.

Jamison Roberts and Santae McWilliams were both 3-for-4 for the Spartans. Roberts had a double and drove in a run. McWilliams and John Abston both had an RBI. Cooper Henson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Christian Rice earned the win, giving up 3 runs – 2 earned – on 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and a walk over 6 innings. Cody Hart gave a hit in an inning of relief.

Florence’s Coston Mahan and Henry Blanke had doubles in the loss. Cade Davis took the loss, allowing 4 runs – 2 earned – on 4 hits with a strikeout in 1.2 innings.

STATEWIDE

Saint James 10, Montgomery Academy 5

Fifth-ranked Saint James picked up a win in the first game of a Class 3A, Area 5 Top 10 showdown over No. 9 Montgomery Academy at home on Thursday.

The Trojans collected 11 hits on the day to 7 for the Eagles, with Douglas Aman, Mason Craig and Charles Cutler all going 2-for-3. Aman had a triple and 2 RBIs while Cutler had a home run and a double and drove in 3 runs for Saint James.

Cutler also picked up the win, striking out 11 batters with 2 walks. He gave up 5 runs – 1 earned – in 7 innings.

Seven Montgomery Academy players had hits – William Marks, Paxton Haigler, Reid McBride, Vincent Desautels, John Allen Jones, Chapman Baker and Kingston Nelson. Haigler, McBride, Desautels and Jones also had an RBI apiece.

McBride took the loss for MA (10-4, 0-1), giving up 4 earned runs, on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts. Marks gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits in one-third of an inning and Jarrett Friendly struck out 1 and allowed a hit in two-thirds of an inning.

Montgomery Academy 9, Opelika 0

The Eagles blanked sectional foe Opelika on the road on Tuesday.

Montgomery Academy took a 3-0 lead in doubles to open the day with John Alford and Jackson Brown winning at No. 1, Ford Morano and Edwin Wu taking the No. 2 point and Anton Yang and Bo Johnston winning at No. 3.

In singles, Alford won the No. 1 match, Brown took No. 2, Morano won at No. 3, Wu took No. 4 with Liam Baker and Duncan McInnes winning at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

Montgomery Academy, 10-1 on the year, will play in the Hillcrest Doubles Tournament in Tuscaloosa on Friday and Saturday.

SOFTBALL

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Baldwin County 3, Palatka (Fla.) 1

Florida Atlantic signee Madilyn Byrd struck out 7 to push her career total past 1,000 as the Tigers beat Palatka, Fla., on Saturday in the Orange Beach Classic II. Byrd threw 3 no-hit innings with a walk in the win before giving way to Nassar Brooks, who allowed an earned run on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk in the final 3 innings.

Leadoff hitter Madisyn Williams was 1-for-2 with a triple for Baldwin County. Brooks was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Ryann Wallace was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

On Thursday, third-ranked Baldwin County used a pair of pitchers to no-hit McGill-Toolen in a 15-0 home Class 6A, Area 2 game. Starter Brooks got the win, pitching 2 no-hit innings with every out coming via strikeout. Julianna Thompson struck out 2 in the final 2 innings.

Williams had a home run in 3 at-bats with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and the Tigers slapped 4 doubles – from Brooks, Brooke McGowin and a pair from Gabby Bidwell.

McGowin was 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs in the win and Macey McKinley went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Thompson was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.

Daphne 17, Foley 0

Reigning Miss Softball Vic Moten reached 1,000 strikeouts in her career by striking out the only batter she faced in a Trojan rout on Thursday. Moten has an 8-2 record this season.

Kylie Stahl pitched the final 2.2 innings in third-ranked Class 7A Daphne’s run-rule win. She struck out 6. The Lions managed 1 hit and committed 4 errors.

Abby Johnson and Cammerlyn Herport both homered as the Trojans scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning and 8 more in the second.

Johnson scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. Aubrey Gregg had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Kylie Stokes and Farley Harris also drove in 2 runs each.

Daphne (18-3) will play four games this weekend in the Alex Wilcox FCA Memorial Tournament in Montgomery. The Trojans play Florence at 11 and Tuscaloosa County at 1 today and Prattville at 1 and Beauregard at 3 on Saturday.

Orange Beach 13, Jasper 3

KG Favors struck out 10 as the Class 4A No. 1 Makos improved to 15-1 on the season.

Orange Beach scored in every inning of the 5-inning rout – 2 in the first, 1 in the second, 4 in the third and 6 in the fourth. The Makos pounded out 13 hits.

Ava Hodo and Kaitlynn Robertson both homered and drove in 2. Daigle Wilson, Katie King, Favors and Taylor Poland all had 2 hits.

The Makos host T.R. Miller at 6 p.m. today.

Spanish Fort 2, Gulf Shores 1

Delaney Duncan’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh lifted Class 6A No. 1 Spanish Fort to a win over Gulf Shores.

The Toros (20-5) scored single runs in the second and seventh. Gulf Shores scored its run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 1.

Duncan was 2-for-3 in the game with both RBIs. Maggie Pollock, Cayden Dorger, Jayla Harris and Presley Parks each had a hit.

Mallarie Beagle went the distance in the circle, striking out 9 and allowing a run on 3 hits to get the win.

Anna Leigh Price went the distance for the Dolphins, striking out 6. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with Gulf Shores’ only RBI. Cam Nowlin and Anayia McCutchen each had a hit.

The Dolphins will play in the Oxford High Round Robin this weekend. Spanish Fort plays at Baldwin County on Tuesday.

Alma Bryant 5-0, Saraland 2-16

Haley Anderson slapped a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Hurricanes over Saraland on Tuesday in the opening game of a double-header. Spartans’ pitcher Laken Bryan no-hit Alma Bryant in a 3-inning run-rule game to earn the split – striking 9 of 10 batters she faced.

In Game 1, Anderson’s shot to center field put Alma Bryant up 4-2 and back-to-back errors by Saraland brought in the final run.

Aubrey Herrera picked up the win in the circle for Alma Bryant in relief of Madelyn Ladnier. Herrera gave up no runs on 3 hits in the final 2 innings. Ladnier went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs – 1 earned – on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts.

Anderson, Ladnier, Breighlynn Hastings, Juliana Walker and Katelyn Hamilton had hits for Bryant.

The home team scored a run in the top of the first when Olivia Ray doubled in Gracie Dees, who had reached on an error. Saraland added a run in the sixth when Ray doubled and scored on a single by Jadyn Byrd.

Dees was saddled with the loss, allowing 5 runs – 3 earned – on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

In the 16-0 runaway, sixth-ranked Class 6A Saraland scored 5 runs in the first and 11 in the second, taking advantage of 7 Alma Bryant errors.

Lillian Roberts went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, Bryan was 2-for-3 with 6 RBIs and a run scored. Adilyn Hartley also had an RBI.

Fairhope 12, Satsuma 1

Mia Gates cracked 3 hits – including a pair of doubles – to help Fairhope to the road win over Satsuma on Tuesday. Emma Stewart also had 3 hits with 3 RBIs with 2 stolen bases for the Pirates.

Addison Russell smacked a 3-run home run in the first inning as Fairhope opened the game with a 4-0 lead.

The Pirates also scored 4 runs in the final inning with Gates scoring the final run on an RBI single by Briley Bolden. The Pirates pounded out 15 hits overall.

Russell picked up the victory in the circle, allowing a run on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts over 7 innings.

Anna Bonds knocked in the lone run for Satsuma (13-10-2) on a 2-out single to score Bralee Byrd. Madison Sawyer took the loss for the Gators facing only four batters in the first inning.

Fairhope (15-8) will host Robertsdale on Wednesday.

Mary G. Montgomery 8, Spanish Fort 2

The Vikings used a 5-run fifth inning to get past top-ranked Class 6A Spanish Fort at home on Tuesday. Hannah Fenner delivered the clutch hit for Mary G. Montgomery, a 2-out, 3-run triple that scored Gracie Coleman, Alexis Pierce and Ava Gradick.

Class 7A MGM took advantage of 4 walks in the inning, before Fenner’s big hit to left field.

Coleman had a pair of hits in the win, scoring 2 runs. Emilee Perry had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs, including the Vikings’ first run on a first-inning single that brought in Gradick.

Every Viking batter reached base, as MGM (5-11) had 9 hits and reached on 8 walks, coupled with two Spanish Fort errors.

The Toros had a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Madison Griffith scored on a Maggie Pollock ground out. Maddie Nelson had a pair of hits for Spanish Fort and scored on Pressley Park’s ground out in the first that tied the game at 1.

Cayden Dorger took the loss for Spanish Fort, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings.

Freshman Malena Simonson picked up the win, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts with a walk in the complete game effort.

Spanish Fort plays at Baldwin County on Tuesday.

Westminster Christian 11, Randolph 1

The Wildcats stayed unbeaten in Class 4A, Area 15 play with the 5-inning win over crosstown rival Randolph on Tuesday. Slone Holiday hit a walk-off single up the middle to drive in AP Slaten to end the game.

Abby Woods pitched 3 scoreless innings to pick up the win, allowing 1 hit with 2 strikeouts. Stella Ward pitched the final 2 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits with a strikeout.

Holiday finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBIs as Westminster outhit the Raiders 10-4. Slaten was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and Carleigh Gothart had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 RBIs.

Eliza McCrary had 2 hits for Randolph.

Prattville Christian 17, LAMP 2

The ninth-ranked Panthers rolled over Class 4A, Area 5 foe LAMP at home on Thursday to improve to 18-4 on the season.

Chloe Hollon went 3-for-3 at the plate for Prattville Christian and drove in 2 runs. Sara Payton Schmidt went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Addie Byrd, Caralee Janes, Lara Beth NeSmith, Holly Beth Rollan and Chasiti Lindsey all had 2 hits each.

Rollan picked up the win in the circle for the Panthers.

On Tuesday, Prattville Christian beat Montgomery Catholic 7-2 in another 4A, Area 5 game.

Alivia Messick earned the win with NeSmith picking up a save. Saniyah Weaver went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the win. Lindsey was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

PCA will play Apollo of Owensboro, Ky., on Friday in the FCA Tournament at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park. On Saturday, the Panthers are scheduled to play Lee-Scott, Tuscaloosa County and Pike Road in the tourney.

Montgomery Academy 6, Montgomery Catholic 0

Montgomery Academy’s Sophia Cho scored 4 goals – three in the first half – to reach 100 career goals for the Class 7A Eagles in a shutout of 4A No. 2 Montgomery Catholic on the road on Thursday.

Cho’s first goal, off an assist from Mary Elizabeth Cole, game 10 minutes into the match. Cho made it 2-0 with a shot into the bottom corner. Cho’s third goal came after Cole won a free kick from 25 yards out. Cole scored on a pass from Kerstin Daniels to give Montgomery Academy a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Cho’s fourth goal of the night was her 100th, coming 15 minutes into the second half.

Kirsten Thomas scored the final goal of the night to put MA at 8-2 on the year.

Montgomery Academy will host JAG for Senior Night at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
