Spring breaker allegedly fired 20 rounds from BB gun at family walking near Florida beach
A Texas teen in Florida for spring break was arrested last weekend after police say he fired at least 20 rounds from a Glock-style BB gun at a family walking home from dinner near a Santa Rosa County, Fla., beach.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a condominium complex near Santa Rosa Beach Saturday night being fired at from a vehicle. The sheriff’s office says three children ages 10, 15, and 17, were struck by BBs.
“This is not the first such instance of this happening during Spring Break in Walton County,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
“BBs can cause serious harm to those on the receiving end. This type of behavior is not a game. Not only is it dangerous for those being shot at, but a weapon of this kind can be mistaken for a real gun putting others in fear for their lives.
“Anyone shooting one of these runs the risk of being shot at in return – possibly with a real weapon.”
Provided with the description of the vehicle and the Texas tag, deputies located the suspect about two miles away from the scene of the incident. The black Audi was found with a Glock-19 style BB gun lying on the rear passenger floorboard.
The 16-year-old was identified as the suspect and deputies used the teen’s Snapchat account to locate him nearby. He admitted to shooting the BB gun at people walking on the sidewalk, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect is charged with aggravated battery, shooting from a vehicle and child abuse, with additional charges possible.
