For a while, it appeared No. 3 Class 5A Vigor had Class 7A Baker on the ropes in a non-region game at Wolfpack Stadium on Thursday night.

Early in the third quarter, though, Speedy Wheeler and a determined defense got off the ropes and ruined Vigor’s hopes of an undefeated regular season as the Hornets came away with a hard-fought 10-9 win.
