Special Jimmy Buffett-inspired bobblehead released to raise funds for his foundation
A special edition bobblehead inspired by the late Jimmy Buffett and his signature song “Margaritaville” has been released to raise funds for Buffett’s Singing For Change Foundation (SFCF).
Created by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame, the bobblehead features the omnipresent Margaritaville parrot dressed in a Hawaiian shirt, backward baseball cap and playing a guitar. Margaritaville is emblazoned across the base of the bobblehead.
Buffett created the SFCF in 1995 to fund grassroots organizations that “inspire personal growth, community integration and enhanced awareness that collectively, people can bring about positive social change. We believe people can achieve sustainable self-sufficiency through vibrant, diverse communities,” according to JimmyBuffett.com.
Buffett, born in Pascagoula, Miss., and raised largely in south Alabama, was heavily involved in philanthropy throughout his lifetime, including establishing the Save The Manatee Club in 1981 with then-Florida Gov. Bob Graham, who died last week at the age of 87; and Last Mango Boatworks, which sells licensed apparel and donates the proceeds to charity.
Buffett, who died last September at the age of 76, launched the Margaritaville brand in Key West, Fla., in 1987, named for the eponymous 1977 single which remains Buffett’s highest-charting single, reaching #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Easy Listening chart. After his death last September, it reentered the Top 40 for the week ending Sept. 16.
The Margaritaville brand grew to include hotels and resorts, casinos, RV parks, residential communities, and a variety of other products.
The bobbleheads are $30 each and available for preorder through the Bobblehead Hall of Fame online store.
