Southwire expanding Florence plant, to hire 120
Cable and wire production company Southwire today announced an expansion of its Florence plant which will add about 120 jobs.
The project is also expected to increase production capacity by 30% and more than double the facility’s square footage.
Construction is expected to begin this quarter to add approximately 340,000 square feet of added space to the 300,000-square-foot campus. The project should be completed by 2025.
Southwire President and CEO Rich Stinson said the project was part of a billion-plus dollar program to upgrade equipment and technology and “increase efficiency, enhance competitiveness and ensure the operational capability and capacity to support our strategic growth.”
The Southwire Florence Plant was acquired from Essex in 2006 to support the company’s production of commercial and residential building wire. This expansion will also include renovating the existing building, adding locker rooms, training space and an outdoor picnic and activity area.
“Southwire’s investment project will create good-paying jobs in Florence while also enhancing the facility’s competitiveness and solidifying its future in the community,” Alabama Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said. “Southwire is a world-class company and a great corporate partner at the state and local level. We’re thrilled to see them grow and thrive in the Shoals area.”
Plant Manager Brian Davis said the expansion will also streamline the company’s commercial and residential building wire efforts.
“This expansion speaks volumes about the dedication, hard work and commitment of our team members, and we look forward to the opportunities that this expansion will bring,” Davis said.
