Southern Living says these 2 places are best for fall color in Alabama

Behold the effects of carotenoids, anthocyanin and other science stuff that makes leaves change colors.

Once again, fall is falling and with it will come those beautiful colors that make being outside extra special this time of year. Those reds. Yellows. Browns. Various shades thereof.

Southern Living recently published a list of “The Best Places In Every Southern State For Incredible Fall Color.” Two from Alabama made the tally: Lookout Mountain Scenic Parkway and Little River Canyon Nature Preserve.

Located in Fort Payne, Little River Falls is touted for “a glorious autumn view of its 45-foot waterfalls. You’ll also find vibrant fall foliage as the preserve’s sassafras, flowering dogwood, hickory, dogwood, oak, and maple trees change colors.” More info on Little River Canyon at nps.gov.

Southern Livings says, Lookout Mountain’s Gadsden-to-Chattanooga “93-mile parkway runs alongside waterfalls, canyons, small towns and villages, state and national parks, and some of the state’s most colorful trees. More info on Lookout Mountain Scenic Parkway at visitlookoutmountain.com.

All told, 44 places made Southern Living’s “Fall Color” list.

Places from states other than Alabama to make the list include: Arkansas’ Scenic Byway 7; Georgia’s Black Rock Mountain; Kentucky’s Dale Hollow Lake; Maryland’s Route 219 Scenic Overlook; Mississippi’s Cypress Swamp; North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Parkway; South Carolina’s Lake Keowee and Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
