Southern Living calls Alabama country store among the South’s most charming
Alabama boasts one of “The 10 Most Charming Country Stores In The South,” according to Southern Living readers.
SouthernLiving.com recently posted its Top 10 based on “an impromptu poll of our readers.” Mega-entities such as Buc-ee’s and Cracker Barrel got votes, according to the article on the results, but they were excluded in favor of strictly local spots.
The lone Alabama spot on the list will be a familiar one for many I-65 travelers: Priester’s Pecans in Fort Deposit. “Don’t mistake this popular road trip pitstop for just a place to stock up on the South’s favorite nut,” advises Southern Living. “This is the kind of place that you walk into expecting to pick up a sleeve of cinnamon-roasted pecans and leave with an entire basket full of treats.”
Priester’s traces its roots back to a business that Lee C. “L.C.” Priester started in a Texaco station in 1935. It’s now into its fourth generation as a family enterprise.
Other businesses that made the short list include Pratt’s Country Store in Knoxville, Tenn.; Betty’s Country Store in Helen, Ga.; and Stripling’s General Store, a sausage-forward venue based in Bogart and Cordele, Ga.
