Jax Yoxtheimer singled on a 3-2 count in the bottom of the seventh inning as reigning Class 7A champion Central-Phenix City defeated Class 5A No. 1 Headland 2-1 on Saturday.

Carson Gilley and Preston Bedford each had two hits for the Red Devils. Cason Page had the other RBI.

Brigg Cameron was the winning pitcher with four innings of relief. He allowed just three hits and a run, while striking out three and allowing a walk.

Gulf Shores goes 3-1

Gulf Shores went 3-1 last week in the Gulf Coast Classic 3.

The Dolphins started hot Monday, beating Boaz High School 6-3. Jackson Beck got the win on the mound going six innings, allowing three earned runs. Alex King got the save. The Dolphins were led by senior Logan Allen at the plate who hit two doubles, two runs scored and had two RBIs.

On Wednesday, the Dolphins lost a close game to Rehobeth High School 3-1. Gulf Shores got a strong pitching performance from junior Alex Rippy, who went five innings, allowing only three runs, two earned. Brendon Byrd led the offense with two of the team’s four hits.

The Dolphins beat John Carroll in the night cap Wednesday night 8-0. Connor Gehr (3-1) went the distance, pitching six innings and allowing three hits and striking out seven. He also was 2-for-3 at the plate. Juniors Alex King and Joseph Stephens had two hits apiece as well for the Dolphins.

To end the week on Thursday, the Dolphins beat Carroll 4-2. Byrd pitched six innings, allowing only three hits and two earned runs. He struck out nine and walked three. Byrd was also 2-for-3 at the plate.

Gulf Shores (16-10) will play Mary G. Montgomery on the road at 5 p.m. today.

Musgrove pitches MGM to win

Fuller Musgrove collected three hits and scored two runs to lead Mary G. Montgomery to a 7-3 over Jackson on Friday in Semmes.

The Vikings scored three in second. Garret Feltman led off the inning with a solo home run, blasting an 0-1 pitch off Jared Merida and driving it over the left center field wall. Ryder Lowery doubled, driving in Everett Coggin.

Merida took the loss for the Aggies, surrendering four runs off five hits through three innings. The Aggies scored two runs in the first inning, their only lead of the game. Hayden Terrell was hit by a pitch from Cody Strickhausen. Dalonte Moore singled in Jalen Pickens.

MGM added three more in the fifth inning. Koen Wilson, Justin Friend and Brody Tuinder each drove in a run.

Slade Turner recorded the final three outs on the mound for the Vikings.

No. 1 Bayside rallies past Flomaton

Class 4A No. 1 Bayside Academy scored three runs in the third and five in the fourth Saturday as the Admirals rallied past Flomaton for a 9-4 win.

The Hurricanes opened the game with four runs in the top of the first.

Jake DeValk drove in three runs for the Admirals (15-7). Josh Gunther was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Cade Morris also had two RBIs.

Teague Broadhead and Tait Moore each pitched three innings. Harry Brown III and Sammy Dunn closed it out in the final inning.

Caleb Silbernagel drove in two runs for Flomaton.

Gulf Shores wins 4 of 5

Gulf Shores won four games in last week’s Gulf Coast Classic 3 Tournament.

The Dolphins (11-9) defeated McAdory (6-0), Gordonsville, Tenn. (8-4), Glencoe (8-0) and Dale County (3-2). The only loss came against Hoover (11-1).

Some highlights from the week included:

Tia Titi going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Anna Leigh Price pitching five shutout innings with eight strikeouts against McAdory.

KK Jacks and Anayia McCutchen both going 2-for-2 against Gordonsville with Jacks getting the win on the mound.

Maddie Beshears going 3-for-3 with three RBIs against Glencoe with Price pitching five more shutout innings and striking out seven.

Price pitched six innings with five strikeouts against Dale County.

Gulf Shores plays Mayfield (Ky.) and Grayson County (Ky.) this weekend at the Saraland Tournament.

Madeline Howard shines for St. Paul’s

Madeline Howard pitched five innings of no-hit softball and struck out 16 as St. Paul’s defeated Citronelle 11-0. Senior Caroline McLendon was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs and sophomore Fancy Malone was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored.

The Saints (11-12) also beat Baker 9-7. Freshman Ava Voris got the win in two innings of relief, while Howard got the save with perfect seventh. Malone was 3-for-4. Freshmen Kendall Dougherty was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while fellow freshman Emily Lockhart was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Junior catcher Morgan Maples was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Saints play Alma Bryant and Vigor this week.

GIRLS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy sweeps Florence

The MA girls swept Florence 9-0 at Lagoon Park on Thursday and then took first place in the Austin Invitational on Friday.

In Austin, Gabby Barrera, Jenna Chandler, Kareena Singh, Lola Campbell and Marianna Lassner all took first place, while Anna Powell took second.

The doubles teams of Chandler and Barrera, Lassner and Campbell and Singh and Powell all took first place as well.

BOYS TENNIS

MA repeats in the Austin Invitational

Montgomery Academy repeated as the champion in the Austin Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

Whit Davis, Charlie Hill, John Alford, Jackson Brown and Ford Morano all won singles titles. Edwin Wu was a runner-up. Two doubles teams also won first place.

The Eagles play Smiths Station today.

GIRLS SOCCER

Prattville Christian shuts out Holy Spirit

Avery Rogers scored four times and had an assist as PCA defeated Holy Spirit 7-0.

Ella Pegg added two goals and Bella Carothers had the other.

Emily Branch and Morgan Lisle each had an assist.

Kendall Jordan recorded the shutout in goal.

Prattville Christian (5-1-1) will travel to Chilton County on Tuesday.

Holy Spirit edges Prattville Christian

Holy Spirit edged the PCA boys 6-5. Cohen Palmore led the Panthers with two goals. Cade Segars and Liam Taylor each had a goal and an assist. Carson Roberson also had a goal.

Prattville Christian will travel to Wetumpka today.

TRACK AND FIELD

Solid outing for Montgomery Academy

The Eagles traveled to Lincoln High late last week with the girls winning the meet and the boys finishing sixth.

Some top scorers for the girls were Isabella Johnson (first in discus, first in shot put, second in javelin), Elle Ingram (first in 800-meter, first in 1,600-meter), Brie McClendon (third discus, third shot put, fourth javelin) and Sarah Elizabeth Casey (first high jump, fourth 300-meter hurdles).

Jack Garrett was the top scorer for the boys team, winning first in the pole vault.
