South Regional boys: St. Luke’s rolls past Ariton in 2A final
MVP Brandon Cooks scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds Tuesday afternoon as St. Luke’s defeated Ariton 54-38 in the Class 2A South Regional at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery.
The Wildcats (15-11) advanced to the final four for the fourth time in the last seven years. St. Luke’s also went to Birmingham in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Garreth Trawick’s team opened a 15-6 lead on Ariton and never trailed. The Wildcats led 26-18 at the half and 34-22 after three quarters.
Cooks was 7-of-13 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. JT Busby followed with 12 points. Mike Myles added seven points and nine rebounds.
St. Luke’s shot 43 percent from the field (18-of-42) and 84 percent from the free throw line (16-of-19). The Wildcats converted 17 Ariton turnovers into 17 points.
Ariton shot just 33 percent from the field (16-of-48) and 6 percent from the 3-point line (1-of-17). Ian Senn led the way with 19 points.
St. Luke’s will play either Tanner or Mars Hill at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Class 2A final four.
