South Alabama’s Tabe honored by Sun Belt Conference
South Alabama guard Samuel Tabe is the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball, it was announced Tuesday.
Tabe, a transfer from Division II Seton Hill, averaged 28 points and six rebounds in games last week vs. Southern Miss and Arkansas State. The senior from Beltville, Md., shot 19-for-31 from the field and 18-for-21 from the free-throw line in the two games.
Tabe (pronounced “TAH-bay”) scored 29 points against Southern Miss and 27 vs. Arkansas State. He poured in a career-high 35 vs. the Red Wolves the previous week.
The 6-foot-5 Tabe is averaged 11.9 points per game this season, his first at South Alabama. He is the first Jaguar named Sun Belt Player of the Week since Isaiah Moore on Nov. 29, 2002.
South Alabama (14-15 overall, 6-10 Sun Belt) finish off the regular season with a pair of home games this week, vs. Southern Miss on Wednesday and vs. Louisiana-Monroe on Friday. Both games tip off at 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Center.
