South Alabama’s La’Damian Webb honored by Sun Belt

South Alabama running back La’Damian Webb was named Monday as the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Webb, a junior from Opelika, rushed for a career-best 163 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries in a 31-3 victory at Arkansas State on Saturday. He 69 yards on the game’s first play from scrimmage, and also carried the ball 11 straight times for 52 yards on the Jaguars’ final drive of the game.

Despite being limited by injury in two games this season, Webb has rushed for 667 yards and nine touchdowns. The junior-college transfer has added 14 receptions for 145 yards and another score.

Coastal Carolina swept the other two weekly Sun Belt awards, with linebacker Shane Bruce named Defensive Player of the Week and punter Evan Cranshaw earned Special Teams Player of the Week. Bruce totaled 11 tackles and added a quarterback hurry and fumble recovery in a 24-13 victory over Marshall, while Crenshaw averaged 42.8 yards per punt, with six being downed without a return.

South Alabama (6-2, 3-1 Sun Belt) is at Georgia Southern (5-3, 2-2) at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The game will stream live via ESPN+.
