South Alabama’s Jamaal Pritchett on track to play vs. Arkansas State
South Alabama wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett is on track to play Saturday at Arkansas State barring any setbacks, head coach Major Applewhite told AL.com on Wednesday.
Pritchett, the Jaguars’ leader in receptions (29), receiving yards (394) and touchdown catches (4) this season, left last week’s game at LSU late in the first quarter with a head injury. The senior from Jackson — who also averages 28 yards on punt returns — went through concussion protocol and returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday.
In other injury news, safety Trent Singleton has returned from a foot injury and will be on the travel squad this week, Applewhite said. Singleton, a Mississippi State transfer, was competing for a starting job at the Husky (nickel) position prior to suffering the injury about midway through preseason camp.
Also expected back this week in some capacity are linebacker Landon Hughes (back) and cornerback Reggie Neely (ankle). Hughes — a key special teams contributor for the Jaguars throughout his career — has missed the entire season thus far, while Neely started in Week 1 vs. North Texas but has not played since.
South Alabama (2-3, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference) takes on Arkansas State (2-2, 0-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Ark. The game will stream live via ESPN+.
