South Alabamaâs Caullin Lacy enters NCAA transfer portal
South Alabama wide receiver Caullin Lacy has entered the NCAA transfer portal, AL.com has confirmed.
Lacy was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick this season, when he set a Jaguars program record with 91 receptions. That total ranks fifth nationally, as does his 1,316 yards.
Lacy posted about the decision on Instagram late Thursday, asking his followers in the comments, “What’s the Move?”
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Lacy also excelled as a punt returner this season, averaging 10 yards per attempt. The Mobile native was a third-team All-Sun Belt pick as an all-purpose back.
In 47 games over four seasons, Lacy caught 208 passes (also a program record) for 2,518 yards and 13 touchdowns. Because of the COVID exception granted to all Division I athletes in 2020, he has one season of college eligibility remaining.
Lacy’s potential departure is a big blow for a South Alabama offense that is already losing starting quarterback Carter Bradley and top running back La’Damian Webb. Though former walk-on Jamaal Pritchett emerged as a consistent No. 2 receiving threat in 2023, top veteran Devin Voisin missed all but two games in 2023 with a knee injury.
Lacy is also easily the most high-profile South Alabama player to enter the transfer portal since Kane Wommack became head coach in 2021. The Jaguars lost only one starter — outside linebacker C.J. Rias — to the portal in the previous two years.
• South Alabama finished the 2023 regular season at 6-6. The Jaguars will learn Sunday who and where they will play in their bowl game.
