South Alabama running backs coach, defensive line coach leaving for other jobs

South Alabama running backs coach Jayden Everett and defensive line coach Cedric Douglas have left for other jobs without ever coaching in a game for the Jaguars, head coach Major Applewhite confirmed to AL.com on Monday.

The 38-year-old Everett, who was hired by the Jaguars in January, has taken a similar position at Minnesota. He replaced Effrem Reed, who left in December for Wake Forest.

Douglas, 35, has taken the defensive line coach job at Georgia Southern. Also hired in January, he replaced Jonathan Bradley, who left to join college teammate Jerry Mack at Kennesaw State.

A Kansas native, Everett spent the 2024 season as an offensive assistant/analyst at Michigan. He was previously running backs coach at Vanderbilt (2023), Tulsa (2021-22), Akron (2019-20) and Central Michigan (2017-18).

Douglas coached in 2024 at Utah State. He also worked at Buffalo (2021-23) and UMass (2019-20) and was a graduate assistant at Arkansas State.

Applewhite told AL.com he hopes to have replacements for Douglas and Everett in place in the next week or so. The Jaguars begin spring practice in mid-March.

News of Everett’s departure was first reported by 247 Sports.
