South Alabama hiring Will Windham as defensive coordinator
Will Windham is coming back to the South Alabama football staff as defensive coordinator, sources confirmed to AL.com on Friday.
Windham was the Jaguars’ linebackers coach the last three seasons, but was abruptly fired by former head coach Kane Wommack along with three other assistant coaches in late December. He had recently taken a job as linebackers coach at Arkansas State, South Alabama’s Sun Belt Conference rival.
The 38-year-old Windham replaces Corey Batoon, who is leaving to become defensive coordinator at Missouri. A Mississippi State graduate, Windham also coached at Davidson, Georgia and Kent State before joining Wommack’s staff with the Jaguars in 2021.
The news of Windham’s hiring at South Alabama was first reported by 247 Sports.
