South Alabama gets commitment from Mississippi prep DB
South Alabama picked up a 2024 commitment from Mississippi high school defensive back Amarion Fortenberry on Friday, the Jaguars’ second verbal pledge of the day.
The Jaguars won a head-to-head battle with Southern Miss for Fortenberry, a rising senior at Columbia (Miss.) High School. Fortenberry (6-feet, 170 pounds) also has scholarship offers from UNLV and Western Kentucky, among other schools.
Fortenberry announced his commitment via Twitter:
Fortenberry hails from the same high school as South Alabama running back Kentrel Bullock, who transferred in from Ole Miss prior to spring practice. Freshman defensive back Karon Weary, who signed with the Jaguars in December, played at nearby East Marion High School.
Fortenberry is South Alabama’s fourth commitment for the 2024 class, joining St. Augustine/New Orleans defensive back Charles Gurley (who also committed Friday), St. Paul’s offensive lineman Asher Hale and Theodore defensive tackle Kevin Norwood. The early signing period for high school recruits begins in late December.
