South Alabama football up to 11 transfer portal additions for 2025
South Alabama football has added 11 players via the transfer portal, coach Major Applewhite confirmed to AL.com.
Seven of those players had already publicly announced their commitments. They are: linebacker Tre’Mon Henry (Southern Miss), wide receiver Brendan Jenkins (Samford), defensive end Tirrell Johnson (Harding), offensive lineman Ni Mansell (South Carolina), tight end Miller McCrumby (Arkansas State), safety Tywon Wray (Oklahoma State) and defensive back Dallas Young (Arkansas).
Four others have not publicly announced their plans to transfer to South Alabama, but are either enrolled in school and already on-campus or have signed financial aid paperwork and are en route to Mobile. That list includes safety Anthony Brown (Purdue), linebacker Caleb Dozier (Georgia Tech), cornerback Jayvon Henderson (East Tennessee State) and offensive lineman Leavy Johnson (Western Kentucky).
South Alabama began spring semester classes on Monday. Here’s a breakdown of each of the newcomers:
• Anthony Brown, SAF, 6-0, 195, Purdue — A native of Milan, Tenn., Brown spent his freshman year at Arkansas before playing the last two seasons at Purdue. He played in all 24 games (primarily on special teams) for the Boilermakers the last two seasons, totaling seven tackles and a forced fumble. A 3-star prospect in the 2022 class, he has two years of eligibility remaining.
• Caleb Dozier, LB, 6-2, 225, Georgia Tech — A Dothan native and former star at Headland High School, Dozier was a 3-star prospect in the 2024 signing class. He did not see any game action this past season with the Yellow Jackets while redshirting, and has four years of eligibility remaining.
• Jayvon Henderson, CB, 5-10, 189, East Tennessee State — A two-year starter for the Buccaneers, Henderson totaled 75 tackles, 16 pass breakups and an interception in 23 career games at the FCS level. A teammate of fellow Jaguars transfer Brendan Jenkins at Mill Creek (Ga.) High School, Henderson has two years of eligibility remaining.
• Tre’Mon Henry, LB, 6-2, 245, Southern Miss — A Columbus, Ga., native who played his junior year of high school at Eufaula, Henry totaled nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 11 games for the Golden Eagles in 2024 after redshirting as a true freshman. A 3-star prospect in the 2023 signing class, has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
• Brendan Jenkins, WR, 6-1, 200, Samford — Jenkins caught 89 passes for 888 yards and seven touchdowns in two seasons with the Bulldogs, and was Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023. The Hochston, Ga., native is the son of former Ohio State and NFL receiver Michael Jenkins and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
• Leavy Johnson, OL, 6-3, 292, Western Kentucky — A native of Panama City, Fla., Johnson signed with the Hilltoppers as part of the 2023 class. He did not see any game action the last two seasons, and has three years of eligibility remaining.
• Tirrell Johnson, DE, 6-2, 250, Harding — A native of Wynne, Ark., Johnson 45 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and 14 quarterback hurries in two seasons with the Bisons, one of the top Division II programs in the country. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
• Ni Mansell, OL, 6-3, 300, South Carolina — A native of Anderson, S.C., Mansell played three seasons at Mercer and two at South Carolina, taking a COVID year for 2020 and redshirting in 2023. He started 10 games at guard for the Bears in 2022, played in two games for the Gamecocks this past season, and has one season of eligibility remaining.
• Miller McCrumby, TE, 6-4, 238, Arkansas State — A native of Mount Pleasant, Texas, McCrumby caught 26 passes for 217 yards in 27 games with the Red Wolves the last three seasons. A 3-star recruit in the 2022 signing class, he has one year of eligibility remaining.
• Tywon Wray, SAF, 6-1, 200, Oklahoma State — An Atlanta native, Wray was a 3-star prospect in the Cowboys’ 2023 signing class. He did not see any game action the last two seasons, and has three years of eligibility remaining.
• Dallas Young, DB, 6-0, 196, Arkansas — A Gardendale native, Young was a 3-star prospect in the 2023 signing class. He played in 12 games primarily on special teams for the Razorbacks this season after redshirting in 2023, and has three years of eligibility remaining.
