South Alabama faces severe weather risk on Friday: Damaging winds and tornado possible

A cold front will bring a chance for a few severe storms to south Alabama on Friday.

The rest of Alabama is expected to get some rain, but no severe weather is expected.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a Level 1 out of 5 risk for parts of south and east Alabama on Friday. It includes cities including Mobile, Montgomery, Dothan, Troy and Greenville.

A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

The National Weather Service said any stronger storms that develop could have damaging wind gusts, and a tornado will also be possible.

Storms will be possible from Friday morning in southwest Alabama into Friday afternoon in southeast Alabama.

Temperatures will really warm up today, with highs in the 70s expected across a good chunk of the state. Here are today’s expected high temperatures:

A weather system will approach from the west and bring a line of rain and storms to the state starting early Friday morning.

The weather service doesn’t expect all the parameters to line up well enough for a heightened severe weather threat, but a few stronger storms will be possible.

High temperatures on Friday will also be on the warm side:

The rain is expected to move out later in the day on Friday, and dry weather is expected over the weekend.

And good news for warm-weather fans: No big arctic blast will follow tomorrow’s rain. Temperatures will remain in the 60s and 70s through the weekend and into next week.
