South Alabama basketball pummels Arkansas State, 82-62
South Alabama won in blowout fashion for the second straight game Thursday, blasting past Arkansas State 82-62 in Jonesboro.
The Jaguars (10-13, 4-7 Sun Belt) shot 57% from the field and scored 46 points in the paint against the last-place Red Wolves (9-15, 1-10). South Alabama beat Troy 77-60 in Mobile last Saturday.
As it did on Saturday, South Alabama dominated throughout. The Jaguars took the lead for good at 5-2 on Owen White’s 3-pointer just 1:09 into the game and had built a double-digit lead by the 10-minute mark of the first half.
Arkansas State cut the lead to six at 22-16 with 8:46 remaining in the first half, but South Alabama’s Jamar Franklin and White hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it a 12-point game at the 7:25 mark. The Red Wolves never got closer than two scores after that.
South Alabama guard Isaiah Moore led all scorers with 23 points for the second straight game, the ninth time this season he has reached the 20-point mark. Moore is averaging 18.4 points per game, fourth-best in the Sun Belt.
Kevin Samuel scored 20 points on 10-for-11 shooting, while White added 11 points with three 3-pointers. The Jaguars made 15 of 17 free throws and turned the ball over just nine times all night.
Terrance Ford led Arkansas State with 21 points, while Izaiyah Nelson added 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Red Wolves went just 2-for-12 on 3-point attempts.
South Alabama is at Louisiana-Monroe at 2 p.m. Saturday.
