South Alabama basketball lands commitment from JUCO standout

South Alabama on Monday landed a Class of 2025 verbal commitment from Coastal Alabama Community College South forward Stephen Williams.

The 6-foot-9 Williams averaged 16.6 points per game, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game for the Coyotes this season, earning second-team Alabama Community College Conference honors. An Atmore native and Escambia County High School graduate, he has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Williams joins November high school signees Desmond Williams of Baker and Samuel Shoptaw of Windermere (Fla.) Prep — both point guards — in South Alabama’s 2025 signing class. The spring signing period begins on April 16.

South Alabama shared the Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship this season, its first since 2018. The Jaguars were eliminated from the conference tournament in the semifinal round by Arkansas State on Sunday night, losing 74-71 in Pensacola, Fla.
