South Alabama assistant Landius Wilkerson leaving for Tulane
South Alabama defensive line coach Landius Wilkerson is leaving for Tulane, multiple sources confirmed to AL.com.
Wilkerson was part of Kane Wommack’s original staff in 2021 and was regarded as the Jaguars’ top position coach as well as being one of the best recruiters in the Sun Belt Conference. An Alabama State graduate who also coached at Jacksonville State and Huntingdon, he leaves to join former Troy coach Jon Sumrall with the Green Wave.
South Alabama now has five openings on its coaching staff after Wommack fired offensive line coach Gordon Steele, running backs coach Antonio Bradford, wide receivers coach Michael Smith and linebackers coach Will Windham on Dec. 27. Only offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Major Applewhite, defensive coordinator/safeties coach Corey Batoon and tight ends coach Rob Ezell remain from Wommack’s original USA staff.
South Alabama finished 7-6 in 2023, its second straight winning season. The Jaguars beat Eastern Michigan 59-10 in the 68 Ventures Bowl, the first postseason win in program history.
