South Alabama adds former Oklahoma State defensive back via portal

South Alabama on Monday added a transfer portal commitment from former Oklahoma State safety Tywon Wray.

Wray (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) was a 3-star recruit in the 2023 signing class. The Atlanta native did not see any game action the last two seasons, and has three years of eligibility remaining.

Wray is the second Power 4 Conference defensive back to join the South Alabama team through the transfer portal in this cycle, joining Dallas Young of Arkansas. The Jaguars have lost three defensive backs — Amarion Fortenberry (Kansas State), Jordan Scruggs (West Virginia) and Rickey Hyatt (Ohio) — to the portal since the end of the regular season.

Wray is South Alabama’s seventh portal transfer addition in the current cycle, joining Young, wide receiver Brendan Jenkins (Samford), offensive lineman Ni Mansell (South Carolina), defensive end Tirrell Johnson (Harding), linebacker Tre’Mon Henry (Southern Miss) and tight end Miller McCrumby (Arkansas State). Fall semester classes began at the university on Monday.

South Alabama went 7-6 in 2024, beating Western Michigan 30-23 in the Salute to Veterans Bowl.
