South Alabama adds former Oklahoma defensive back Jamarrien Burt for 2023
South Alabama has added former Oklahoma defensive back Jamarrien Burt to its roster for 2023, a source confirmed to AL.com.
Burt (6-feet, 185 pounds) played in three games and totaled one tackle as a true freshman for the Sooners in 2022. He was able to take a redshirt season, meaning his has four years of eligibility remaining.
Burt has not officially announced his commitment to South Alabama, but did update his Twitter bio to read “CB @SouthAlabamaFB.”
A three-star recruit out of Forest High School in Ocala, Fla., Burt is the younger brother of current South Alabama cornerback Brian Dillard. A redshirt junior, Dillard joined the Jaguars program after playing the 2022 season in junior college.
Burt joins a South Alabama cornerback group that returns part-time starter Marquise “Cuddie” Robinson in 2023, but must replace NFL draft pick Darrell Luter and fellow senior Jamar Richardson. Sophomore Ricky Fletcher and junior-college transfer Reggie Neely battled for a first-team position in the spring, while Dillard and Purdue transfer Jordan Buchanan arrived earlier this summer.
Burt is the second former Oklahoma player to transfer to South Alabama in the last two years. Defensive end Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge, a 4-star recruit out of high school, transferred in last season and totaled two tackles in three games.
Burt is the 11th Division I transfer to join the South Alabama program since the end of the 2022 season. Here is the complete list:
