South Alabama adds ex-Purdue DB Jordan Buchanan for 2023

South Alabama capped a wild recruiting weekend with the addition of a Division I transfer who will join the team for the 2023 season.

Former Purdue cornerback Jordan Buchanan has committed to the Jaguars, he announced late Sunday. Buchanan’s decision comes on the heels of a weekend in which South Alabama had six commitments for its 2024 class.

Buchanan did not see any game action for the Boilermakers in 2022 and has four seasons of eligibility remaining. He is the son of former NFL cornerback Ray Buchanan, a Pro Bowler with the Atlanta Falcons in the late 1990s.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Buchanan was a three-star recruit out of North Gwinnett High School in Suwannee, Ga., last year. He announced his transfer decision via Twitter:

Buchanan joins a South Alabama cornerback group that returns part-time starter Marquise “Cuddie” Robinson in 2023, but must replace NFL draft pick Darrell Luter and fellow senior Jamar Richardson. Sophomore Ricky Fletcher and junior-college transfer Reggie Neely battled for a first-team position in the spring, while junior-college transfer Brian Dillard arrived earlier this summer.

Buchanan is the 10th Division I transfer to join the South Alabama program since the end of the 2022 season. Here is the complete list:
