South Alabama adds ex-East Carolina kicker Laith Marjan

South Alabama added a transfer portal commitment late Monday from former East Carolina kicker Laith Marjan.

Marjan did not attempt a field goal or extra point in two seasons with the Pirates, but has served as a kickoff specialist in 17 career games. The Raleigh, N.C., product redshirted in 2021, but has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

South Alabama has a definite need at kicker, following the graduation of both field goal and extra point specialist Diego Guajardo (the program’s all-time leading scorer) and kickoff man Jacob Meeks following the 2023 season. The Jaguars signed kicker Davis Little of South Forsyth (Ga.) High School in December.

Marjan is the fourth Division I transfer for the Jaguars since the end of 2023 regular season, joining offensive lineman Malachi Preciado (Purdue), defensive lineman Bryston Dixon (Georgia Tech) and tight end Andrew Bench (Bowling Green). The Jaguars could add a few more before the end of the week, which is the deadline to enroll in spring semester classes.

South Alabama went 7-6 in 2023, beating Eastern Michigan 59-10 in the 68 Ventures Bowl for the first postseason win in program history.
