South Alabama adds 2027 football game vs. SEC opponent
South Alabama will play at Florida to open the 2027 football season, AL.com has confirmed via a Jaguars football spokesman.
The Jaguars will travel to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to face the Gators on Sept. 4, 2027. The game with Florida joins future SEC dates for South Alabama at Auburn (2025), at Kentucky (2026) and at Ole Miss (2028), plus a home game with the Rebels in 2029.
South Alabama and Florida have never played in football, though the Jaguars were originally scheduled to play in Gainesville in 2016. That game was canceled after the Gators were forced to re-schedule a conference game with LSU due to Hurricane Matthew (South Alabama ended up playing Presbyterian, which was Florida’s original opponent, in order to complete its non-conference schedule that year.)
The South Alabama-Florida matchup was first reported by FBSchedules.com. The game will reportedly pay the Jaguars $1.2 million.
In addition to Florida, South Alabama also has 2027 non-conference games scheduled with Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech. A fourth non-conference game will be added at a later date.
