Some former AT&T customers are eligible for a refund: Do you qualify?
Some former AT&T customers are eligible for a refund from the company, the Federal Trade Commission announced.
The refunds are the result of a settlement with AT&T over allegations it reduced data speeds on unlimited accounts – a process known as data throttling – effectively slowing down internet speeds after certain amounts of data was used in billing cycle.
“After customers used a certain amount of data in a billing cycle, they experienced data speeds so slow that many common activities like web browsing and video streaming were difficult or impossible,” AT&T said.

As part of the settlement, AT&T agreed to pay $52 million to current and former customers. Current AT&T customers received their portion of the settlement in the form of a bill credit in 2020 but former customers are now eligible to receive their part.
To be eligible, you must be a former AT&T customer who had an unlimited data plan at some point between Oct. 1, 2022 and June 30, 2015 and experienced slow data speeds. You cannot have previously received a payment from AT&T in this matter to qualify.
The amount of payment will depend on how many people apply and there’s no schedule yet as to when the payments will be made.
You can apply for a refund at www.ATTDataThrottling.com. The deadline is May 18.
