Social Security announces significant new change users will love
The Social Security Agency is making what it describes as a “significant” change that will give account holders digital access to their Social Security numbers.
In a statement, the agency said a new digital SSN feature will allow account holders to display their number without having to produce a paper card.

“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure. We believe that this modern approach will meet the needs of our constituents in a more efficient manner.”
There are several advantages to the new method, the agency explained. Individuals who have forgotten their Social Security number or misplaced their card will have secure access to their number without having to visit a Social Security office or wait for a new card in the mail.
The number can be accessed through the “my Social Security” portal on desktop or mobile devices.
In addition to cutting back on the number of in-person visits someone would have to make, the new system is designed to reduce the risk of lost or stolen cards.
The feature will be available early this summer. You will need a my Social Security account to access the number. You can go here to set up an account.
