June is wedding month for many. Over the past 25 years or so, never has a June gone by that I haven’t been contacted by someone hoping that I still have a copy of a column that appeared in the Birmingham News. It was written as a letter to a female reader who was questioning if she was making the right decision in marrying a hunter and fisherman.

I never dreamed at the time it would be my most requested column ever, or that it would one day be read at my own daughter’s wedding.

It was headlined “So, You Want to Marry an Outdoorsman.”
