Snow in north Alabama: Photos, videos of January winter weather

With freezing temperatures expected in parts of Alabama next week, a small flurry of photos and videos of snow fell on social media from the northern part of the state Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert for snow until Wednesday at midnight for Jackson and DeKalb counties.

“This light wintry precipitation may result in light accumulation on grassy surfaces and elevated objects,” the alert stated. “Use caution when traveling on elevated roadways, bridges, and overpasses.”

Temperatures dropped to the low to mid 30s in north Alabama Tuesday night, and are expected to drop into the 20s this weekend.

That will likely drop to below freezing by Sunday and last through much of next week, according to the weather service.

Here are some of the sleet and snowfall videos and photos seen on social media Tuesday night.
