Snow flurries possible in parts of Alabama tonight
Severe storms today and snow tonight? It’s possible for north Alabama.
The National Weather Service said a few snow flurries will be possible late tonight and into Friday morning after a cold front moves through Alabama.
That front is bringing the possibility of ]severe weather to the entire state today. Tornadoes, damaging winds and hail will all be possible as a line of storms continues to move from west to east across Alabama.
Much colder air is expected to follow behind the cold front later tonight. And it could be cold enough to generate a few flurries for parts of north Alabama and north-central Alabama, according to the weather service.
Minor accumulations — less than an inch — will be possible in the higher terrain areas of northeast Alabama, according to the weather service in Huntsville.
“Everyone else will see flurries or very light accumulations,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion early Thursday.
Unlike north Alabama’s last bout of snow, temperatures will be warm enough to melt snow when it hits the ground.
However, elevated surfaces like bridges or overpasses could freeze faster, so caution is advised for those traveling late tonight in north Alabama.
