Snow and extreme cold possible for Alabama this week: What we know today

Winter will return with a vengeance to Alabama this week, with some of the coldest temperatures since late January expected in a few days.

North Alabama could see a little snow as well.

The National Weather Service said just under an inch of snow will be possible for northwest Alabama from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Other parts of north Alabama could see a dusting or less.

A wintry mix of rain and snow will be possible in the northern part of central Alabama, according to forecasters.

However, the majority of Alabama will only get a cold rain.

The weather service warned that some travel impacts will be possible in north Alabama and the northern part of central Alabama through mid-morning on Wednesday, especially for areas north of U.S. Highway 278 and west of Interstate 65.
