Snoop Dogg’s ‘giving up smoke,’ asks for privacy

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, announced Thursday he’s giving up smoking.

While the hip hop star didn’t say what type of smoking, he is quitting, the post got lots of attention.

“After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time,” he posted on Instagram and X.

There were many skeptics in the responses to his post.

The link between Snoop and marijuana has spanned decades. The 50-year-old marijuana advocate famously smoked a joint while walking the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards in 2021 and has business ties to various edibles and weed strains.

Snoop Dogg told the Daily Mail in March he’s cutting down on smoking after becoming a grandfather.

“Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways,” he said. “The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old. The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking. Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I’m supposed to be doing?”
