Snoop Dogg rolls into WrestleMania in Alabama-customized vintage car
The guy who once rapped “Ready to make an entrance, so back on up” still knows how to make an entrance. Snoop Dogg cohosted WrestleMania 39 last weekend. During the event, the rap star/weed hero also drove masked wrestler Rey Mysterio out to the ring in Snoop’s 1970 Buick Skylark amid WrestleMania’s production spectacle. The two-night event took place at Inglewood, California’s SoFi Stadium, home to NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and L.A. Chargers franchise.
Not long ago, Snoop’s vintage car received a hot new look in Alabama. The Southern California musician enlisted Huntsville car-customizers Spokes-N-Vogues and AutoworkZ and Madison’s Barnes Signs, the latter owned by Huntsville High grad Blair Barnes, for the project. The pièce de resistance: A metallic “tangerine orange” chrome wrap exterior. Tatum’s Upholstery in Houston did the car’s interior.
Before Mysterio’s entrance, in a video clip Snoop can be seen telling him backstage, “I only drive for G’s, you hear me?” During WrestleMania 39 festivities, Mysterio, aka Óscar Gutiérrez, was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Other inductees included Stacy Keibler and the Great Muta. Snoop Dogg, who’s performed/appeared at multiple previous WrestleMania event, became the WWE Hall Of Fame’s first musician inductee in 2016.
According to Spokes-N-Vogues’ “Big Lee” Adams,” Snoop Dogg first reached out to the Alabama car crew via Instagram DM. The Skylark’s finished look includes a “pop trunk,” with the inside of the lid displaying the name of Snoop’s 1998 album “Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told” in neon letters. Prior to WrestleMania, Snoop’s chromed Skylark appeared in the music video for “Motto,” a track by his rap supergroup Mount Westmore also boasts Ice Cube, Too Short and E-40.
WWE, short for World Wrestling Entertainment, is a premier professional wrestling promoter, formerly known as the WWF, or World Wrestling Federation.
At WrestleMania 39, Snoop Dogg also got in on the action. The famously chill musician ended up delivering an elbow and eventually pinning cohost Mike “The Miz” Mizanin after breaking up an altercation in the ring between Mix and WWE scion Shane McMahon. WrestleMania 39 main events found tag team Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn besting (former West Alabama football players) The Usos and Roman Reigns topping Cody Rhodes for the WWE Universal Championship.
The first WrestleMania was held in 1985 at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The main event that night: Hulk Hogan and “Rocky III” actor Mr. T versus Paul “Mr. Wonderful” Orndorff and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. In 1986, WrestleMania III drew a reported attendance of 93,173 to Detroit’s Pontiac Silverdome, with Hulk Hogan outlasting André the Giant in the main event.
