Snoop Dogg bobblehead stolen from Florida restaurant: Accused ‘Dogg-napper’ in custody

A suspect local media labeled a “Dogg-napper” is now in custody after authorities say he stole a large Snoop Dogg bobblehead figuring from the lobby of a Ft. Myers, Fla., restaurant Monday night.

According to the Lee County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Cantina Laredo after being alerted to the theft Tuesday. Restaurant personnel told investigators someone had stolen the roughly three-foot-tall bobblehead of the famed rapper/actor — valued at $1,250 — from the restaurant lobby the previous night.

Surveillance video from inside the restaurant shows a man grabbing the bobblehead and walking out the door about 9:53 p.m. Monday night, just prior to the restaurant’s 10 p.m. closing time.

The theft occurred as other patrons stood in the lobby talking nearby and the hostess had her attention diverted elsewhere.

A surveillance camera located outside the restaurant shows the man walking out the door with the figurine and heading towards the parking lot.

Through media reports of the Dogg-napping which spread across the Ft. Myers area, coupled with the efforts of detectives, restaurant management and Crime Stoppers, the suspect was identified as 50-year-old Rocco J. Benedetto of Ft. Myers.

Benedetto, with the stolen Snoop Dogg in hand, turned himself in Wednesday morning. He was charged with grand theft and booked into the Lee County Jail. He posted bond of $2500 — exactly double the value of the stolen Snoop — and was released Wednesday night, according to the Lee County jail docket.

According to the sheriff’s office, Benedetto has a previous conviction for DUI/manslaughter in New Jersey.

“Unfortunately for Benedetto, while too busy being the ‘life of da party’, we’re ending the day by ‘droppin’ him like it’s hot’ off at the Marceno Motel,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office posted to its Facebook page. Marceno Motel is a euphemism for the county jail, a nod to Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

The missing Snoop Dogg has been returned to the restaurant.
