Snead State on lockdown as homeowner fires warning shot at intruder
An Alabama community college went into lockdown Thursday night after a homeowner fired warning shots into the ground when they found an intruder on their property.
The homeowner lives in Boaz near Snead State Community College, Boaz Police Chief Michael Abercrombie told the Sand Mountain Reporter.
“There were reports of shots fired near campus. Snead State issued a lockdown as a precaution,” Shelley Smith, a spokeswoman for the college, told AL.com. “No injuries have been reported. The Boaz Police Department continues to investigate. For more information, contact Boaz Police Department.”
Boaz police could not be reached for comment.
Social media users shared text messages purportedly from Snead State sent around 8:40 p.m. that read: “EMERGENCY! This is a LOCKDOWN for the Snead State Community College main campus in Boaz. This is a LOCKDOWN for a report of shots fired on campus. Remain indoors, away from lines of sight. LOCKDOWN.”
Boaz officers are searching for the suspect.
