Snake blamed for another north Alabama power outage

In a battle between a snake and an electrical transformer, you can pretty much bet the snake will not come out the winner.

According to the city of Athens, a snake made its way into the Athens Primary Substation on Elkton, disrupting power for customers in West Limestone, Clements and parts of Tanner and Athens. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. Thursday and people were reporting service was restored around 10 a.m.

The outage is the second snake-related incident in North Alabama this month.

On July 5, service was knocked out for about 19,000 Marshall DeKalb Electric Cooperative customers in and around Boaz. The reason behind the outage was eventually traced to a snake that made its way into the Albertville Primary Substation, knocking out much of the system.
